Lewis’ Journey
Lewis (18, Salford) was recently referred into us by family after meeting our Salford Lifestyle Coach at an open day run by Chatsworth Futures.
Lewis is Autistic and has a learning disability, he is also non-verbal. Since COVID, Lewis had become very withdrawn and reluctant to engage with people and his family had seen quite a change in his personality as a result. Lewis had a high BMI and poor overall levels of fitness.
Lewis expressed an interest in trying new activities in the gym and in basketball. Our Salford Lifestyle Coach has worked closely with Lewis for a number of weeks and he is now able to independtly navigate his way around the gym. He is a big fan of the rowing machine and arm bike and activities with a slam ball.
Lewis’ family have seen an amazing improvement in his behaviour and general wellbeing and feels as though he has more energy. Lewis also wants to show his brother what he is doing in the gym. He continues to make fantastic progress and is feeling much more positive and motivated in activity.
Our Salford Lifestyle Coach has referred Lewis to the Salford Knights disability basketball group, which runs every Tuesday evening at Eccles Sixth Form College.
